In the women’s wakeboard last chance qualifiers (LCQ) Apassom  Akaraisayaporn (THA) and Tantanasorn Chaiyabood (THA) along with Lee Sunjoo (KOR) and Srirasin Khamklom (THA) all made it through to the semi-finals.

In the men’s LCQ with Alex Yoong opting out it was Wan Ka Choi (HKG), who topped the list of five riders in Heat 1 and with only one from each heat qualifying for the semis he joins Bader Aljihayem (Independent Olympic Athletes) in progressing to the semi-finals.

The women’s trick preliminaries followed with the 13 contestants vying for one of ten slots in the final. Not unexpectedly it was the Chinese women Jiang Hui with 4880 points Song Yufei with 5880 who look most likely medal contenders. The eight-year old Aaliyah Hanifah Yoong’s 2600 points was enough to keep her in the top five along with Japanese skiers Hiroko Komori and Saaya Hirosawa and Sareeya  Promsuntist (THA).

The men’s trick competition was much closer with just 540 points separating second and seventh places. With only the final results counting, except to break a tie, the successful completion of tricks will be critical to ensure they all count.

Chinese skier Shu Longfei clearly demonstrated he’s the one to beat with a score of 4200 points, leaving Cho Bumgeun (KOR) with 3260 his nearest rival.

With the LCQ out of the way the women’s wakeboard semi- finals commenced. Another consistent performance by Miku Asai (JPN) saw her and Duan Zhenkun (CHN) along with the two other Chinese women Han Qiu and Chen Lili from heat 2 progress to the finals. In the third and final heat Sasha Christian and Joo Seulkee progress to make up an exciting programme for the finals.

Competition really hotted-up in the men’s wakeboard semi-finals with Ronnie Cheung (HKG) just missing out on one of the six slots for the wakeboard finals with Lin Xiaojun (CHN) and Bunyalo Jumruang  progressing.     A fine performance by Julien Briestroff saw him through to the final in 2nd place along with Ji Hoon (KOR) while Wan Ka Choi (HKG) again missed out. It was even closer in the 3rd and final heat with a smooth performance by a Tatsanai Kuakoonrat (THA) including a clean Moby Dick and KGB won the heat and a final’s berth.
