AAO Waterski Wakeboard & Barefoot Championships

img_8688-1-19.jpgUnfortunately early on  mechanical problems and inclement weather resulted in extensive disruption to the programme but with considerable juggling by Paul Fong AAO Confederation President,  in consultation with the Chief Judge and the officials from barefoot and wakeboard  a revised programme was devised which was ultimately completed satisfactorily, much to everyone’s relief. The Indonesian  Water Ski Federation did a remarkable job in organizing the event and  there was nothing but praise for their efforts after  a longtime absence in hosting such events.

Wakeboard events scheduled for the final day were switched to Saturday as, with their familiarization cancelled by the weather, they needed to get out on the water and at least have one round of scores on the board in case the programme continued to be disrupted. The slalom finals were deferred to the last day while men’s jump, which normally wraps up the event were held on Saturday.img_8637-barefoot.jpg                                          img_8680-1-hirosawa-saaya-aao-w-jump.jpg

The barefooters completed their events mostly rising before dawn to enjoy calm conditions at 05:45 although again this was interrupted on Saturday by rain.

Wakeboard was the biggest casualty with the only the top six from the AAO results going forward into the Asian finals, rather than all riding again in a separate competition. This was obviously disappointing for some riders.

Team Australia recovered the John Kumm Shield after losing it for the first time ever in 2008,while Team China took home the gold medals in the Asian Tournament Team event. Medal winners included img_8737-1-barefoot-women-jump.jpgimg_8880-1.jpg
