BRITON LUKE THOMAS WAKEBOARD COACHING TOUR IN PUTRAJAYA SEPTEMBER 2010
UK’s top amateur rider Luke Thomas who is expecting to join the Wakeboard Pro Tour very soon will be visiting Putrajaya’s Waterski & Wakeboard school for a 2 week training cum coaching stint this September. 
The 20 year old from Reading rides behind a Mastercraft X-2 in a local
volunteer club will be supported by Liquid Force in his training tour
through Asia down to Australia and New Zealand. The 2 week stop in Putrajaya will see him doing coaching for the Malaysian Waterski & Wakeboard Federation’s young trainees and the region’s riders during the weekdays.
Customer bookings are encouraged for the weekends should any riders wish to be attended by Luke and benefit from some good tips from him.
Luke will arrive in Putrajaya on the 11th September and leave on the 26th September.

Round 3 of the Malaysian Championships

Round 3 of the Malaysian Championships concluded yesterday (Sunday 18 July) at Putrajaya.

*         Sasha Christian of Singapore, Asian Women Wakeboard Champion,
took top podium spot in Wakeboard Open event against tough competition.
*         Kuwait participated for the first time in Malaysia, with a 7-strong contingent with a win by Falah Adel Al-Falah in wakeboard men novice.
*         Former Formula 1 racer, Alex Yoong, back in waterski competition, won the Jump event with 31m with little practice after a 13 year lay-off from waterskiing.
*         Former British Junior Champion, Mark Simmons, won Slalom Open event.
*         Malaysia’s head coach, Phillipa Yoong won Shortboard Open, second in Jump and Slalom.
*         Anakin Ali, 8, broke his own Malaysian boys’ Shortboard record with a score of 1040 points in his second ever tournament.
*         Shamal Norman of Malaysia scored an impressive 21.25m winning novice jump having only started jumping in March this year.
*         Youngest competitor in Round 3 six year old Aaliyah Yoong Hanifah rewrote Malaysian Girls’ Shortboard record with 960 points.
*     IWWF Asian Australasian Oceanian Confederation President, Paul Fong, announced that the IWWF AAO will consider MWWF’s bid for the 2011 IWWF Asian Waterski & Wakeboard Championship.
*         Putrajaya City’s President, Tan Sri Samsudin Osman, graced the presentation ceremony and gave away medals to winners.
*         China’s national shortboard coach and world’s top 10 ranked shortboard skier with 6,800 points to her credit, E Min, evaluated Malaysia’s junior shortboard skiers at Round 3 and offered support to coach
Malaysia’s skiers.

2010 IWWF AAO and Asian Championships

To be hosted by the Indonesian Federation in Jakarta the 2010 AAO Championships & the Asian Championships could see record numbers of participants with 130 potential competitors in the AAO three events tournament skiing, barefoot and wakeboard. Representing 17 countries or regions. Dates 5-10th October 2010 venue Lake Sunter, Jakarta Indonesia.

3 Insurance

Participants should take out private travel/accident insurance besides their health insurance.

Accident insurance should include accidents arising during waterski and/or wakeboard

competition. Your travel insurer should be able to include this as an extra endorsement if you

do not have existing coverage. Participants will be required to sign a waiver upon

registering and provide evidence of personal accident insurance.

New Asian Jump Record

 We are pleased to announce that a new Asian Jump record has been recognised. The new jump record of 56.8m was set by  Korean Ji-min Jeong  at the John Roach Memorial tournament at the Jim Grew Lake, Florida, USA  on 16th April 2010. The previous record was held by Eum-yoon Young of 55.2m who still holds the Asian Championship record of 54.9 set in New Zealand in 2000.

Gavin Brain Re Elected as AWWF President

Gavin Brain to lead the A.W.W.F in his tenth year at the helm.
On the weekend 17/18th October the AGM of the A.W.W.F. was held in the home of the Sydney Water Ski club. For the first time eight states were represented with newcomers Sid Burgess from Tassie and Kelly Burns from Northern Territory welcomed to the AWWF structure.  The feeling in the meeting was buoyant as President Gavin Brain and  CEO Gary Humphrey presented key wins to the table. A real growth of 10% in the membership across all Divisions, new States on board, increased club affiliation and a new Show Ski Division in the wings. On the water this year the Aussies have excelled at International events with Gold Gold Gold and now World Champions in the Wakeboard World. All Presidents presented comprehensive reports on progress across all States
On the Sunday the AWWF Board met and again endorsed a very successful year for the AWWF. Gavin Brain was re elected unopposed as President for another two year term which will see him spend 10 years in the top job. With 30 years in key administration roles in Australian Water Skiing, Gavin’s contribution to the sport has been significant.  On completion of his current term Gavin is exploring all options for his future direction.

2009 Asian Wakeboard Cup - Fuyang City, China

The 1st Asian Wakeboard Cup was organised by the Chinese Water Ski Association in Fuyang City, China this past weekend.  The best riders (12 men and 8  women)  from the Asia Australasia Oceania region were invited to compete for a USD22,800.00 cash purse.
